Kala Pocket Nocturnal
Sundial enthusiast have asked us for decades to produce a device to show you the real time at night. So we did some research and discovered the Noctural - a device as old as our sundial - which was worth our customers attention. This beautiful timepiece gives you a time reading with the help of the Pole Star (Polaris) - one of the brightest stars in the Northern Hemisphere.
Produced in a small workshop outside of Madrid, Spain, this carefully crafted instrument measures just 60 mm (around 2 inches) in diameter and meets the international sizing standards for pocket watches. Made out of solid brass, the Kala Pocket Nocturnal and Tide Computer is a contemporary take on historical models.
The nocturnal is a star clock that is used to obtain the time at night using fixed stars visible in the northern hemisphere. On the backside is a historic tide computer, helping you determine the time of high tides at your current location.
This charming instrument can only be used on the Northern Hemisphere as it relies on the Polar Star (Polaris) to tell your local time. It will remain operationally accurate for many years because the variation in the direct ascension varies very little over the course of centuries, making it a truly long-lived instrument and unique gift.
